2019 DS 7 Crossback E-Tense: specs, price and release date

Plug-in hybrid version of the 2019 DS 7 Crossback SUV set to go on sale in 2019

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense plug-in hybrid SUV is due in showrooms later in 2019, promising up to 31 miles of electric, zero-emissions range.

Featuring a 13.2kWh battery, charging the E-Tense should take no more than two hours on a home wallbox charger delivering a 6.6kW supply.

The 1.6-litre petrol engine is joined by two electric motors – one on each axle – for four-wheel drive and a total system output of 296bhp.

That translates to a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 136mph. Acceleration from 50-70mph is said to take 4.4 seconds, while the top speed in electric-only mode is 83mph – more than enough for motorway driving.

Officially the DS 7 Crossback E-Tense will achieve 128mpg, although you’ll need to plug it in regularly to get anywhere near that figure in the real world.

To maximise efficiency, the E-Tense’s default driving mode is electric, zero-emissions running. There are three other modes to choose from: sport boosts performance, hybrid automatically finds the most efficient mix of electric motor and engine power, while four-wheel drive increases traction on surfaces with less grip.

As well as employing a regenerative braking system to top up the battery on the move, the E-Tense also features an ‘E-SAVE’ setting, which preserves a portion of energy in the battery to be used in the final miles of a journey. This should allow drivers to retain enough electric range to commute into a city.

With the battery located in the floor of the E-Tense, boot space remains the same as found in the standard DS 7 at 555 litres. The interior is identical, too, expect for a subtle reference to the ‘E’ status of the car on the gear selector and some additional menus on the touchscreen.

The DS 7 Crossback E-Tense rides on 19-inch alloy wheels, and is available in Crystal Grey.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, although we expect it to cost more than the standard DS 7, which starts from £28,140. The E-Tense is expected to reach UK showrooms later in 2019.
