Peugeot e-2008 running costs

The Peugeot e-2008 is competitively priced compared to rivals and should be cheap to run

The Peugeot e-2008 is well priced for a practical, fully electric, small family SUV with a generous equipment list. Even if you go for one of the mid-range Allure or GT Line trims that we recommend, it’s still very competitive at around £30,000-£32,000. The MG ZS EV is usefully cheaper, though, even if it can't match the Peugeot’s range and general sense of quality.

Finance costs for the Peugeot are also competitive, so even with a very low deposit of less than £1,000, you’ll see monthly payments under £400 with low interest rates on offer. With a vehicle to part-exchange or a bigger deposit, you’ll see an even lower monthly payment.

Charging the e-2008 will cost roughly £7 on the average domestic electricity tariff, although using off-peak tariffs (you can set the car to charge at certain hours to make this easy) could more than halve that cost.

In the 2020/2021 financial year, UK company-car drivers benefit from zero Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) company-car tax on electric cars. And even in 2021/22, a 40% taxpayer pay will only be paying £135 per year to run one, so there are serious savings to be made here.

Peugeot e-2008 insurance group

Insurance groups have yet to be confirmed for the latest Peugeot 2008, but the groupings for electric cars are gradually falling and costs are now often comparable with, if not cheaper than, equivalent petrol versions.

Warranty

Peugeot offers a three-year/60,000-mile warranty, which is industry standard but still disappointing next to the much longer warranties offered by rivals like Renault, Kia and Hyundai. The Peugeot’s battery is warrantied for eight years and 100,000 miles, and will be refurbished for free if it drops below 70% of its as-new performance during that time.

Servicing

With long service intervals of two years or 16,000 miles, Peugeot estimates servicing costs will be 30% cheaper for the electric 2008 than for its petrol and diesel-engined counterparts. Each service tends to cost around £200, and there are fixed-price packages available.

Road tax

As with any pure-electric car costing under £40,000, the e-2008 is free of VED road tax. It also gets free entry into the London Congestion Charge zone until December 2025.
