Don't be alarmed by the four-star Euro NCAP rating: crash tests are becoming ever-harder to ace and the Peugeot E-2008 is still a very safe car

The Peugeot E-2008 is likely to be used as a family car more than anything else, so drivers can take comfort in the fact that it should not only be reliable, but pretty safe as well. Some technology limitations do prevent the Peugeot from achieving a perfect safety score and there isn’t much concrete reliability data yet, but owning the E-2008 should be a painless experience overall.

Peugeot E-2008 reliability & problems

It’s too early to comment on the long-term reliability of the E-2008, but electric cars have far fewer moving parts than combustion-engined vehicles, so they should, in theory, be far more reliable.

Buyers should take comfort in the fact that the E-2008 was named the 12th best electric car to own in our 2023 Driver Power customer satisfaction survey. Owners praised the quietness of the electric motor, as well as the E-2008’s chic exterior styling. While ride quality was also praised, our respondents did question whether the electric Peugeot offered decent value-for-money.

Safety

The Peugeot 2008 was awarded a four-star safety rating out of five by Euro NCAP. The only thing holding it back was on the safety-assistance front; while the entry-level E-2008 Active trim level gets camera-based autonomous emergency braking (AEB) that'll automatically brake at city speeds if it senses an imminent impact with a pedestrian or vehicle, higher trims get a more advanced radar-based system that works at night and also senses cyclists. 

The E-2008 is still very well equipped as standard, as it gets lane-keeping assistance, traffic-sign recognition and driver drowsiness monitoring, as well as the standard traction-control and six airbags. It’s a shame that adaptive cruise control is only standard on the top-spec GT trim, and we’d also like to see a driver’s knee airbag and a space-saver spare wheel introduced. Currently, there’s only space for a tyre repair kit.
