EV Deal of the Day: bargain all-electric MG4 hatchback at only £245 per month
If you’re after a frugal yet fun-to-drive family EV, then the MG4 is a real winner
- Good to drive
- Decent range
- Efficient
We rate the MG4 highly here at Driving Electric; not only was it our Best Value Car for 2023, it also bagged the Car of the Year title at the same time. It really is that good. Affordability is a key consideration for most buyers, and certainly those searching for a family car that won’t break the bank. But the MG4 isn’t simply a run-of-the-mill, budget EV. The five-door hatchback offers decent comfort and an impressive level of standard kit, while providing an enjoyable drive, too.
This PCH (Personal Contract Hire) offer from Lease4Less, found through our parent site Carwow, means you can bag a MG4 for just £245 per month. An initial deposit of £3,242.64 is required (including a £300 broker fee) up front, while the four-year deal allows you to cover up to 5,000 miles a year.
Despite being an entry-level SE version, this particular MG4 still brings lots of standard equipment, including 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, rear parking sensors, climate control, adaptive cruise control and a 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Interior space is also a plus point for the MG4 and, although its 363 litre boot isn’t the biggest in the class, it’s still competitive – plus there’s an extra compartment under the boot floor that’s handy for storing the car’s charging cables.
With a 51kWh battery and single electric motor, the MG4’s total output is 168bhp, which means a 0-60mph sprint time of 7.5 seconds. That’s pretty sprightly, while MG also quotes a 0-30mph time of 3.1 seconds that’s probably more relevant to real-world driving and means you shouldn’t have any trouble pulling away at junctions or roundabouts.
Overall range for the MG4 SE is 218 miles on the WLTP combined cycle, although you should see more miles from a single charge if most of your driving is in town, or in stop-start traffic (MG claims a ‘City’ cycle range of 305 miles). If you’re charging on the go at a public rapid charger, a 10 to 80% top-up should take around 39 minutes, while a 7kW home wallbox will need about eight hours to take the battery charge level from 10 to 100%.
