Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV: design sketch previews new variant of electric SUV

The Skoda Enyaq iV range will expand with the addition of a coupe, which has been previewed by a design sketch ahead of its 31 January launch

Skoda is set to add a sleek coupe variant of the Enyaq iV electric SUV to its line-up of zero-emissions models, with the new version's unveiling set to happen on 31 January 2022. The Czech brand first that the sportier Enyaq was coming during its March 2021 annual conference, as well as confirming the 'Enyaq Coupe iV' name.

An official design sketch of the car (above) has now been released, and earlier in 2021 two prototypes of the coupe (one blue, one red) were snapped by spy photographers out testing on public roads. We've also had the chance to drive a disguised prototype version of the car ahead of the official launch.

The Enyaq Coupe iV has a similar shape to the Vision iV concept car that gave us our first glimpse of the Enyaq iV back in early 2019, albeit with some of the more futuristic elements toned down for production.

It differs from the standard Enyaq iV in much the same way its VW Group stablemate the Audi e-tron Sportback coupe does from the standard Audi e-tron, with a sloping roofline at the back instead of a more upright rear. A similar coupe variant of the Enyaq's Volkswagen ID.4 sister model, called the Volkswagen ID.5, has also been launched.

When it arrives, the Enyaq Coupe iV will be available with the same range of battery and motor combinations as the regular Enyaq iV. That means an entry-level version with a 58kWh battery and 177bhp electric motor and an iV 80 model with a 77kWh battery and 201bhp motor. Both of those are rear-drive, however there'll also be a range-topping iV 80X with all-wheel drive thanks to a dual-motor setup, making over 260bhp.

The coupe could possibly offer a little more range than the standard car's 260-310 miles, due to being more aerodynamic and efficient. Like the standard Enyaq iV, the coupe variant shares much of its under-the-metal technology with the Volkswagen ID.3 electric family hatchback and Volkswagen ID.4 electric family SUV.
