Electric cars are still more expensive to buy than their petrol-powered counterparts, but that's generally where the bad news ends. The potential for savings on petrol compared to a standard Mii are obvious, while the allure of zero road tax and very low company-car tax should tempt many looking for fuss-free transport.

It's worth doing some sums before choosing the Mii over any small petrol city car. The Mii's chunky starting price is the main reason for this; if you're a particularly low-mileage motorist, it may still work out cheaper to stump up for tax and fuel if your car has cost a good chunk less in the first place.

However, DrivingElectric wouldn't necessarily condone this – the benefits of an electric car go beyond outright economic sense. General running costs will be cheaper overall, and there's the added benefit of knowing your Mii will be future-proofed against any legislation targeting petrol or diesel cars. The reduced local emissions speak for themselves, while London Congestion Charge exemption until 2025 will be a major factor for some.

SEAT Mii electric insurance group

The SEAT Mii is one of the cheaper electric cars on the market and its insurance rating is similarly reasonable, sitting in group 12 of 50. For context, the Renault ZOE sits in groups 18 to 22, with the MINI Electric occupying groups 18 to 20.

Warranty

The Mii electric comes as standard with a three-year/60,000-mile warranty, as per all SEAT models. This includes a two-year/unlimited-mileage warranty followed by a one-year/60,000-mile warranty, depending which comes first. The battery in the Mii is covered for eight years or 100,000 miles; SEAT guarantees battery capacity won't fall below 70% of the original design during that time.

Other coverage includes a three-year paint warranty and 12 years of body protection warranty. Each of these are subject to proper care from the owner as per the car's handbook. New SEAT parts and accessories fitted post-delivery are automatically covered by a 24-month warranty.

Servicing

SEAT offers fixed-price service plans and thanks to the Mii's relative lack of moving parts and things to go wrong, prices are reasonable. The car's first and second service can be covered with an up-front payment of £393 and 24 monthly payments of just over £16.
