Hyundai Kona Hybrid interior & comfort
As is the case with the Hyundai Kona Electric, the hybrid model is reasonably comfortable. It’s no Mercedes S-Class of course, but the seats offer a good driving position, so you’ll have no issues on longer journeys.
There’s plenty of room inside the Kona Hybrid, but you're not blessed with space. Headroom is sufficient throughout, perhaps with the exception of the middle rear seat, which could be uncomfortable for adults on anything more than a short journey.
Rear legroom is also a concern: there’s not very much space at all if you’ve got long-legged passengers in the front; a Kia Niro or even the less desirable but roomier Hyundai Ioniq is certainly better on this front.
Hyundai Kona Hybrid dashboard
The dashboard in the Hyundai Kona Hybrid looks very stylish, and is at least on par with what's offered in the Kia Niro. Premium and Premium SE cars get a 10.25-inch colour touchscreen, which is a big improvement on the seven-inch screen in SE cars. The graphics aren’t hugely different, but it has better resolution and a split-screen mode that shows the sat nav and entertainment at the same time.
The rest of the dashboard is well thought-out, and Hyundai has resisted the temptation to pile all of the car’s functions into the touchscreen. Beneath the screen, the centre console houses vents, dials for the climate control and additional buttons for the fan speed, direction and windscreen heating. Ahead of the drive mode lever is a compartment for storing small items such as a smartphone, with two USB ports allowing you to connect devices to the car.
White interior stitching and white accents on the gearlever surround and vents are standard on the Kona Hybrid. However, customers can also choose from three other colour packages: Orange, Lime and Red, with the latter two adding coloured seatbelts as well.
Equipment, options & accessories
Equipment levels are very good on the Hyundai Kona Hybrid: standard features on the entry-level SE include climate control, an electric parking brake, 16-inch wheels with a bespoke design, plus white highlights on the air vents, gear lever and interior stitching.
There’s a seven-inch touchscreen, too, as well as rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, plus lane-keeping assistance and driver attention alert systems. Hyundai’s 'SmartSense 1' safety pack is optional, adding automatic emergency braking (AEB) and smart cruise control that can bring the Kona to a complete stop in traffic.
The mid-range Premium spec is the same as the non-hybrid car, with a premium Krell sound system and keyless entry. There’s privacy glass, wireless phone charging and automatic windscreen wipers, while the seven-inch touchscreen makes way for a larger, 10.25-inch unit. The optional 'SmartSense 2' safety pack adds AEB, smart cruise control and blind-spot monitoring, while rear cross-traffic alert also costs extra.
Premium SE is the top-of-the-range trim: it welcomes LED headlights and tail-lights with high-beam assistance, and inside the seats are finished in leather; the fronts are heated, ventilated and electronically adjustable. There’s a head-up display, too, while AEB, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert are standard. 'SmartSense 3' adds smart cruise control and intelligent speed limit warning, which displays the current speed limit inside the vehicle.
Infotainment, apps & sat nav
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity is standard on all versions of the Hyundai Kona Hybrid. Meanwhile, Premium and Premium SE trims are compatible with Hyundai’s Blue Link smartphone app: this allows you to remotely lock and unlock the doors, as well as check where the car has been parked.
