While Cupra is a fairly new brand, the Formentor has proved itself in Euro NCAP crash-testing, where it received five stars out of a possible five. The Formentor also comes packed with a host of safety features as standard, meaning you won’t have to worry about spending more for greater peace of mind.

Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid reliability & problems

As this is an almost brand-new model, customers haven’t had time to give their Formentors a proper shakedown, but so far there are no reports of major faults. However, as Cupra is part of the Volkswagen group, the Formentor's platform and hybrid powertrain are already used in many models, including the Skoda Octavia iV, Audi Q3 TFSI e, Volkswagen Golf GTE and several others, so it's likely to be very reliable. SEAT, Cupra’s sister company, ranked 14th overall in the 2020 Driver Power customer-satisfaction survey

Safety

With a five-star Euro NCAP rating, a 93% score for adult protection and 80% for child protection, the Formentor made an impressive start for Cupra as a standalone brand when it comes to safety. But it's not all that surprising when you consider how much safety equipment is packed into the Formentor.

On top of seven airbags throughout the cabin, all Formentors are equipped with a package of driver-assistance features. The V1 and V2 get the 'Safety and Driving Pack M', which includes high-beam assist and road-sign recognition. The VZ1 comes with the 'Safety and Driving Pack L', featuring blind-spot monitoring and exit assistance – the latter to help when opening doors near passing traffic.

Finally, all VZ2 models are equipped with the 'Safety and Driving Pack XL', which adds lane-changing assistance and emergency braking assistance. If it detects an impending impact, it'll also shut any open windows and apply the seatbelt tensioners and hazard-warning lights.
