Ford Kuga Hybrid running costs

The latest Kuga comes with an extensive warranty and is also available with a selection of servicing packages from Ford; company-car tax rates are almost as high as a diesel's, though

Unfortunately, the Kuga FHEV isn’t as company-car-friendly as the plug-in-hybrid version. That car attracts a Benefit-in-Kind tax rate of 11%, while the less fuel-efficient Kuga FHEV incurs a 29% rate – which is the same as for some of the diesel models.

Ford Kuga Hybrid insurance group

Depending on what trim level you select, the Kuga Hybrid falls in insurance groups 19 to 21. The plug-in hybrid sits in the same groups, which are lower than those the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid and Honda CR-V fall into.

Warranty

Every new Ford sold in the UK is protected by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty. In addition, the Kuga comes with Ford Assistance for one year, providing roadside breakdown assistance in the UK and throughout Europe. However, you can extend the Kuga Hybrid’s standard warranty to either four years/80,000 miles or five years/100,000 miles for an additional cost.

Servicing

Ford offers service plans for the new Kuga. The first is the Ford Protect Service Plan, which starts between £11-14 per month depending on how long a plan you opt for; it's available on Ford models up to 12 months old. This service plan offers scheduled servicing and covers all servicing in accordance with ‘Ford Standard Service Schedules’ including associated parts and labour.

Higher-mileage drivers might be interested in the Ford Protect Service Plan Plus, which includes four services over three years/60,000 miles as well as a ‘wear-and-tear' plan for items like the clutch, brake pads, wiper blades and bulbs. However, the more comprehensive plan is only available up to the first date of registration and you'll need to contact a Ford dealership to get a price.

Road tax

You’ll only have to pay £145 a year VED (road tax) on the Kuga Hybrid – it gets a £10 discount on the regular £155 annual rate as it’s classed as an 'alternatively fuelled vehicle'. Plus, even top-spec models don’t cost more than £40,000, so you won’t incur the £335 premium for more expensive cars.
