The Formentor's interior quality is excellent, with plenty of standard equipment across the range

Interior, dashboard & comfort rating

The Formentor e-Hybrid is available in four trim levels: V1, V2, VZ1 and VZ2. All get full LED headlights, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.2-inch digital drivers display. The V1 and VZ1 don’t get full leather interiors, but overall the Formentor is excellent when it comes to standard equipment.

Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid dashboard

Inside, the Formentor’s leather and matte interior is complemented with copper stitching and trim. It’s certainly a unique colour combination that again helps the car stand out next to rivals, and works on the car's two-layer dashboard design. The 12-inch central infotainment screen that comes as standard on all Formentors is also orientated towards you.

However, one element that has migrated over from a lot of newer Volkswagen Group cars is a lack of physical buttons inside. Instead, you operate many functions, like climate control, with touch-sensitive bars as opposed to regular dials. The need to press buttons multiple times for even simple functions like the heated seats doesn’t create a pleasant user experience, but some things can be controlled with steering-wheel buttons.

Equipment, options & accessories

V1 cars come with 18-inch alloys, a digital driver's display, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a host of smart driving features and full LED headlights. The Formentor V2 gets upgraded 19-inch alloys as standard, plus a Napa leather interior, as well as adding parking assistance and a rear-view camera.

The VZ1 and VZ2 come with much the same equipment as their less powerful equivalents, but due to their higher 242bhp power output, they also get adaptive sport chassis control, sports front suspension and speed-sensitive power steering. The VZ2 also gets the otherwise-optional Safety and Driving Pack as standard. Apart from that, the only options for the Formentor e-Hybrid are a tow bar, a panoramic sunroof and a huge variety of paint colours, including £1,800 matte options, so you don’t have to shell out big money on option packs and add-ons.

For 2022, all Formentors are available in two new metallic paint colours: Nevada White and Asphalt Blue, and those with automatic transmissions – including all the e-Hybrid models – come with a heated steering wheel as standard. A Beats sound system is also now available as an optional extra on all Formentors. An electric tailgate is now an option on the V1 and V2 trims, as is a top-view camera for higher-spec VZ1 and VZ2 cars.

Infotainment, apps & sat nav

All Formentor e-Hybrids are equipped with a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10.2-inch digital drivers display. You can navigate through the central infotainment screen with relative ease, but it isn’t the best in this class – and having to rely on it to operate so many of the car's key functions highlights that fact.
