At over £44,000, the UX 300e is quite expensive to buy outright for private owners when compared to its internal-combustion rivals, and even plenty of its rivals in the electric SUV class. But if you take into account potential fuel savings, lower maintenance costs, and exemption from the London Congestion Charge and similar schemes, the UX could well be worth the outlay.

It goes without saying that company-car users will welcome the UX 300e's non-existent local CO2 emissions, which equate to a 2% BiK (Benefit-in-Kind) tax rate for the next few financial years, which is much better than the rate for any petrol, diesel or hybrid-powered car.

Lexus UX 300e insurance group

The UX 300e falls into insurance groups 38 or 39 depending on specification, which is a little higher than the maximum group 26 rating for its UX 250h petrol-electric hybrid sibling.

Warranty

The UX is covered by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty, while its battery is guaranteed for eight years or 100,000 miles. The first of these is not the most competitive on the market – Kia's 100,000-mile/seven-year warranty is still the one to beat – but coverage should be enough for the average three-year lease regardless. It's worth noting that Lexus customers can extend their warranty beyond this period free of charge, simply by continuing to have their car serviced at a franchised dealer.

Servicing

Lexus UX 300e customers need to have their car serviced every 10,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes soonest. Continuing to do this beyond year three will extend the warranty free of charge. The brand is famed for its customer service and has plans available to help spread the cost of maintenance; these Lexus Service Plans let you choose both plan length and payment frequency, as well as which services to include. Standalone servicing prices start at £225 for Lexus models of all ages.

Road tax

You won't have to pay any VED (road tax) in the UK to run a UX 300e on account of its status as a zero-emissions 'alternative-fuel vehicle'.
