All-new Jeep Recon and Wagoneer electric SUVs coming to the UK

The electric flagship SUV and 4x4 off-roader will arrive in Europe in 2024 and 2025 respectively

Jeep Recon 4x4 and Jeep Wagoneer S

Jeep, maker of the Wrangler 4x4 and Compass family SUV, has revealed its plans to launch a total of four brand-new electric cars by 2025. The first will be a compact SUV called the Avenger, which goes on sale next year and will rival the new Smart #1 and Kia Niro EV, among others.

Following hot on its heels will be an all-new, pure-electric version of Jeep’s flagship Wagoneer SUV, launching in Europe in 2024. This car is currently code-named the Wagoneer S, and the brand says it’s targeting a range of 400 miles on a single charge for this large electric range-topper. It will also be capable of 0-60mph in around 3.5 seconds and produce over 590bhp.

Next up is the Recon 4x4 (below), which is set to enter production in North America in 2024, but won’t be coming to the UK until 2025. Unlike the Avenger, which will be available with a combustion engine, the Recon is to be offered exclusively with electric power and has been designed to go off the beaten track. The Recon will come with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction management system, under-body protection, tow hooks and aggressive off-road tires.

The all-electric alternative to the brand’s iconic Wrangler 4x4 has more boxy, utilitarian design compared to the Avenger, and appears to have been heavily influenced by the wildly popular Ford Bronco. Like the Bronco, the Recon has removable doors and windows, and features a retractable roof. The wheels have also been pushed to the far corners of the car to improve the approach, departure and breakover angles for the zero-emissions off-roader.

While the Avenger uses the same 'e-CMP' underpinnings as some existing Peugeot and Vauxhall EVs, the Recon and electric Wagoneer will be based on the new STLA Large platform. The EV-dedicated platform can accommodate dual-motor setups for all-wheel drive and over 100kWh batteries.

We expect Jeep’s fourth EV will arrive in 2025 as well, however, there’s currently no indication of what that car will look like. In the meantime, the brand is close to offering petrol-electric plug-in hybrid versions of its entire current line-up, comprising the Renegade, Compass, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler.
