Audi hasn't performed as well as you might expect for reliability of late, but the A6 TFSI e should be a very safe car

Audi has a reputation for building solid cars and the A6 feels like it follows that tradition. In the latest Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, the brand finished 21st out of 30 manufacturers, with rather incongruously low scores for build quality and reliability, as well as ride quality and steering. Still, Audi managed to beat both BMW (27th) and Mercedes (28th) overall.

Audi A6 hybrid reliability & problems

The 2020 Driver Power survey tracked the average share of owners of each brand who reported a fault with their car. Audi scored disappointingly high here, with exactly a fifth of owners experiencing a problem of some sort. However, the bulk of Audi-owning respondents to the survey were SUV drivers, so there's no exact data for the A6 saloon.

Safety

Euro NCAP crash-tested the Audi A6 in 2018 and it achieved a full five-star rating, with a particularly strong 93% rating for adult protection and a decent 85% score for child protection.

Standard active safety kit includes Audi's 'Pre-Sense' autonomous emergency braking system, lane-departure warning, cruise control with a speed limiter, front and rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera. This standard set of features applies until you get to Vorsprung trim, which adds the Tour Pack. This brings adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition and something called 'Park Assistant Plus', which can search for – and park automatically in – a space.

The 'City Assist' pack is also added, which adds lane-keeping assistance, extended Audi Pre-Sense features and cross-traffic alerts to help when pulling out of junctions. Needless to say that with all of these features fitted, the A6 becomes one of the most technologically advanced executive saloons around.
