Electric cars should, in theory, be more dependable than their combustion-engined counterparts due to having much fewer moving parts to potentially go wrong. Real-world reliability data is thin on the ground for a model as recently introduced as the Mustang Mach-E, but we have no reason to expect the worst. Safety is assured by a five-star performance in independent Euro NCAP crash testing, too.

Ford Mustang Mach-E reliability & problems

Ford is one of the most popular car brands in the UK (thanks mainly to sales of its smaller Fiesta and Focus models), but that doesn't mean owners are entirely satisfied: the firm only managed to place 25th out of 29 brands in the 2022 edition of the Driver Power owner satisfaction survey. Around 21% of Ford owners reported a fault in the first year of ownership, although that doesn’t account for the all-electric Mustang Mach-E alone, however.

Safety

In Euro NCAP crash-testing, the Ford performed well, earning the body's maximum five-star rating. Individual section scores were 92% for adult occupant protection, 86% for child occupant protection and 82% for safety assistance.

All Mustang Mach-Es come with blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance and lane-departure warning, as well as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, evasive-steering assistance and pre-collision assistance. As of September 2022, all models also get Ford’s 'intelligent automated cruise control 2.0', which uses information from the car's sat-nav and forward-facing camera to automatically adjust your speed for upcoming curves, turns and roundabouts, not just according to speed limits.

Active parking assistance is the only extra you get by upgrading from one of the Standard Range to one of the Extended Range models when it comes to safety.
