The independent crash-test body Euro NCAP evaluated this latest Mk4 model of the SEAT Leon in December 2020, giving it a five-star overall rating and adult and child occupant protection scores of 92 and 88% respectively, as well as 80% for safety assistance.

SEAT Leon e-Hybrid reliability & problems

Predicting reliability and common issues in recently launched new models is always something of an inexact science, but SEAT and its VW Group sister models have a reasonably good track record in this area in recent years.

SEAT achieved a mid-table 14th-place finish out of 30 brands overall in the 2020 Driver Power owner satisfaction survey, with a 17.4% average share of owners reporting a fault with their cars. Build quality was rated averagely, but in our experience it's not too far behind that of Skoda and Volkswagen.

Safety

As mentioned above, the Leon did very well in Euro NCAP crash-testing, scoring 92 and 88% respectively for adult and child occupant protection, as well as 80% for its safety assist systems; the latter are designed to prevent any impacts occurring in the first place.

A full complement of airbags, automatic emergency braking and ISOFIX child-seat fixings are standard across the range, while there are also three safety equipment packs you can add at extra cost. The 'Safety & Driving Pack M' (standard on the range-topping Xcellence Lux) comprises a road-sign display and automatic high-beam headlights, as well as predictive and adaptive cruise control.

The 'Safety & Driving Pack L' is optional on all grades and adds side assistance and exit assistance to the M pack's kit, while the 'Safety & Driving Pack XL' (standard on the FR First Edition, optional elsewhere) ups equipment further with semi-autonomous car control in an emergency.
