Peugeot Partner Electric van (2013-2019) reliability & safety

Simple running gear and a very familiar van body should make the Peugeot Partner Electric reliable, but there isn't enough safety equipment included

Overall rating

1.5 out of 5

With a bodyshell, suspension and interior kit that have been in production since 2008, the Peugeot Partner Electric is well up to the rigours of urban driving. It’s pretty rugged under the skin, while the eight-year battery warranty and five-year electric drivetrain cover should provide added peace of mind about the reliability of the electrical running gear.

The Partner hasn’t been crash-tested by Euro NCAP, but the largely identical Citroen Berlingo Multispace MPV only scored three out of five when it was tested in 2014, which is a very poor result.

Peugeot Partner Electric van reliability & problems

So few Partner Electrics have been sold that it’s difficult to judge how dependable they've been. The basic diesel van they’re based on has proved to be a reliable workhorse for businesses across the country, so the suspension, steering, brakes and electrics should be up to the job. Peugeot offers extra warranty cover for the battery and electric motor with warranties that are five and eight years long respectively.

Safety

The Peugeot Partner van wasn’t crash-tested by Euro NCAP, but the closely related Citroen Berlingo Multispace people carrier was evaluated in 2014. Unfortunately, it didn’t perform very well, with only a three-star safety rating. It scored 56% for front occupant safety, and the Partner Electric will likely fare even worse, because it only comes with a driver’s airbag as standard, even though it offers the ability to carry three people up front. A passenger airbag is an option, as are side airbags.

Electronic stability control with hill-start assistance is included, while cruise control with a speed limiter is also thrown in. There are deadlocks and separate locking for the cab, and you can boost security further by adding an optional bulkhead between the cab and load area.
