Electric Ford Puma Gen-E could soon become UK’s top EV seller

The electric Ford Puma has been confirmed to get ‘Gen-E’ designation and will probably share parts with the E-Tourneo Courier

Puma Gen-E

The Ford Puma was the UK’s best-selling car last year and a facelifted version (pictured) has recently been unveiled with some of the brand's latest technology. Now an all-electric model has been confirmed and will arrive in the next few months, badged as the Ford Puma Gen-E.

The electric Ford Puma Gen-E, a future rival to the Vauxhall Mokka Electric, Jeep Avenger and Volvo EX30, will not be built on a bespoke electric-car platform and will instead utilise the same underpinnings as the petrol car.

Instead, we expect that it’ll share its electric motor and battery pack with the new Ford E-Transit Courier; this gets a 134bhp front-mounted electric motor, although the exact size of the battery is yet to be confirmed. A range of around 250 miles would put the Puma in-line with the majority of its rivals, while Ford has confirmed a maximum DC rapid charging speed of 100kW.

Many of the aesthetic changes made for the facelifted version of the petrol Puma give us a good indication of what we can expect the Gen-E to look like; as previewed in teaser images in 2023, the electric Ford Puma will get the facelift’s redesigned LED light signature, while the petrol car’s mesh grille will be blanked off to aid airflow.

On the inside, the Ford Puma Gen-E will also receive the same digital instrument cluster and 12-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system as the normal Puma; of course, the electric model won’t get the petrol variant’s large central gear selector, likely opting for a gear-mounted stalk like in the E-Transit Courier.

An exact release date for the electric Ford Puma Gen-E has not been confirmed, although Ford has told us that it’ll be arriving “later this year”. The American brand remains tight-lipped when it comes to pricing for the new car, but a starting price of around £32,000 would make Ford’s offering slightly cheaper than the aforementioned Vauxhall Mokka Electric.
