Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid reliability & safety rating

This car is unproven in Suzuki form, but wearing the RAV4 badge it's one of the most dependable SUVs on sale, so the Across should be fairly safe bet

Overall rating

3.5 out of 5

Reliability & safety rating rating

4.0 out of 5

As it's a recently introduced vehicle, the Across’s long-term ownership prospects are relatively unknown, but it does have one key factor on its side: as it's effectively a rebadged Toyota RAV4, long one of the more dependable family SUVs, there’s probably not a great deal to worry about. This also means the Across should be as safe as any of its rivals, despite not having been crash-tested itself just yet.

Suzuki Across plug-in hybrid reliability & problems

Being based on the Toyota RAV4 is excellent news for the Across in terms of reliability. Not only does Toyota have an enviable reputation for longevity, but the RAV4 itself scored highly in the 2020 Driver Power survey, finishing 12th out of 75 vehicles. That’s higher than Suzuki’s own Vitara, too, which placed 54th. Toyota’s hybrid system has a durable reputation, with little concern over the longevity of the battery packs, which can handle hundreds of thousands of miles without issue.

Safety

The Across hasn’t yet been crash-tested by Euro NCAP, but its platform-mate the RAV4 has been, and given their near-identical nature, it’s fairly safe to infer similar figures. The RAV4 received a full five-star safety rating, including adult and child safety scores of 98% and 87%, with vulnerable road user protection at 85% (not bad for a bluff-fronted SUV) and safety assist systems at 77%. Those figures were also rated as valid for the plug-in RAV4 in October 2020, so they should all apply to the Across, too.
