Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo hybrid range, MPG, CO2 & charging

Maximum charging speed costs extra, but at least the Porsche Panamera plug-in hybrid's electric range is competitive

Keep the battery topped up and the Panamera E-Hybrid Sport Turismo will return fuel economy that may surprise you. In our test of the 4S E-Hybrid hatchback, the on-board trip computer topped out at 99mpg – a strange quirk of the system – but was probably returning over 100mpg. Put your foot down or deplete the battery and this figure will drop dramatically, however.

Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo hybrid range, MPG & CO2 emissions

We can confidently say you should see around 30 miles' electric running out of the Panamera hybrid in varied use, but that’ll dip if you make much use of the 87mph maximum pure-electric speed. Official range for the Sport Turismo is quoted as 31-35 miles depending on the exact version.

As always with a plug-in hybrid, the critical factor is how often you can charge and whether you can cover all or most of your commute on electric power. Get that nailed, ideally with charging at home or at the office, and the Panamera will be laughably cheap to fuel. The official 94-135mpg fuel economy isn't quite as strong as what the hatchback version manages, however.

Charge time

The Panamera will charge up in around six hours from a standard household socket. Pay around £500 and Porsche will up the maximum charging speed to 7.2kW (the speed of most standard home wallbox chargers), dropping the full charge time around two to three hours. However, to take advantage of those rapid charging times, you’ll need a Type 2 cable that allows you to plug into AC fast chargers, and that also costs extra. This is a Porsche, after all.

If you decide that you don’t need the faster charging speeds, then plugging the Panamera into a normal socket in your house will still give you a full charge in some six hours. Other than the unnecessary amount of optional charging kit, the Panamera’s charging times are similar to other high-end plug-in hybrids such as the Range Rover PHEV.
