Entry-level Renault Scenic Comfort Range slashes the electric SUV’s price by £3,500

The Renault Scenic has been reborn as a stylish electric SUV and has already made waves in the way it significantly undercut the UK’s best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y on price. Now it’s getting even cheaper. 

A new entry-level model has been announced called the Renault Scenic Comfort Range. It’s on sale now from £37,495 – roughly £3,500 less than the Long Range model – and is priced in-line with base versions of the Skoda Enyaq and even the smaller Kia Niro EV.

Key to the Renault Scenic Comfort Range’s lower starting price is its smaller 60kWh battery pack, which has been pinched from the smaller electric Renault Megane. While Long Range versions of the Scenic can supposedly manage up to 379 miles on a charge from their 87kWh battery, giving them one of the longest range figures in the class, the Comfort Range instead comes with a maximum WLTP range of 260 miles. 

Unlike the Long Range model which gets a 217bhp electric motor to power the front wheels, the Scenic Comfort Range must also make-do with a less-powerful 168bhp unit. Renault says the base Scenic will still be able to reach 0-62mph in 8.6 seconds (only 0.7 seconds slower than the top-spec car) and despite its slower 130kW maximum DC rapid charging speed, the Comfort Range can still be topped–up from 15-80% in 32 minutes.

Renault is only offering the Comfort Range model in entry-level ‘Techno’ trim, though we don’t see this as all that much of a bad thing as this specification was our pick of the line-up, anyway. As standard, the smaller-battery Scenic gets LED headlights, 19-inch wheels, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch Google-powered infotainment system (which is one of the best we’ve tried, might we add), heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, front-and-rear parking sensors and finally, a reversing camera.

As mentioned, the Renault Scenic Comfort Range is available to order in the UK now. To sweeten the deal, Renault is currently offering the base Scenic with a £750 deposit contribution and a reasonable 7.9% interest rate on a four-year PCP deal.
