Lexus UX 250h MPG & CO2 emissions

Drive carefully and the Lexus UX is one of the most fuel-efficient SUVs on the market, but it's no better than most diesels on faster roads

The Lexus UX is based on the hugely successful (but no longer available) Toyota Prius and its sister model the Toyota C-HR. But while the platform is the same, the UX uses a more powerful 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors. As you'd expect, it's efficient around town, when it runs in pure electric mode regularly and the economy can creep over 50mpg. However, head out onto faster roads and that figure quickly dives to more like 40mpg.

As this is a hybrid – rather than a plug-in hybrid – you don’t need to connect the Lexus UX 250h to a socket. The downside of this is a limited low-speed electric range of just a mile or two. If you’re clever, though, you can maximise your cost savings by forcing the car into ‘EV Mode’ when crawling around town, but of course you'll see far better electric running from a plug-in hybrid such as the MINI Countryman or Kia Niro PHEV

Lexus UX MPG & CO2 emissions

Official testing saw the front-wheel-drive UX 250h emit between 120 and 137g/km of CO2 depending on specification and wheel size, with the E-Four four-wheel drive models at the top end of that scale. In terms of miles per gallon, the Lexus is equally impressive. The front-wheel-drive car will return between 50 and 53mpg, while the four-wheel-drive one manages from 47mpg. We easily managed some 40-45mpg in a roughly equal mix of motorway and urban driving in the front-wheel-drive model.
