Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid (2016-2022) practicality & boot space

Four adults can sit comfortably in the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid, while boot space is usefully better than in most family hatchbacks

The Ioniq is fractionally longer than a Ford Focus hatchback, and there’s room for four six-footers to sit behind each other, with a big boot as well. It’ll make for a great family car.

Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid interior space, storage & comfort

Rear passenger space in the Ioniq Hybrid is very good – you’ll get two six-footers in quite easily, although even taller passengers will find their head brushing the roof, and a middle passenger won’t be so comfortable. A Nissan Leaf is a little more spacious, but the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf are a bit less roomy.

There’s also plenty of space up front and the driver gets adjustable lumbar support and a rake-and-reach adjustable steering wheel as standard. The Premium trims add height adjustment for the passenger seat, too. There are plenty of cubbies to help keep your phone and keys tucked away securely.

Boot space

The Ioniq Hybrid gets an impressive 443 litres of boot space, which is more than both the Ioniq Electric and the Hybrid's main rival, the Toyota Corolla (with just 361 litres of space) – if a way off the Skoda Octavia's 590 litres. The Ioniq’s rear seats split 60:40 and leave a smooth, if slightly sloped load bay when folded, and there’s also a useful net to stop your groceries from rolling about in the boot.
