The Mondeo Estate Hybrid returns reasonably competitive CO2 and MPG figures for a large and predominantly petrol-powered family car, but its most impressive CO2 figure is only valid for models with 17-inch alloy wheels. Also, its fuel economy suffers on a long motorway run, where a modern diesel will still be more efficient.

Wheel size has a bearing on the fuel economy and emissions you'll see from your Mondeo Estate Hybrid. The cheaper Zetec Edition or Titanium Edition cars with 17-inch alloys put out 130g/km, but this figure rises to 134g/km on the larger 18 and 19-inch wheels of the higher-spec ST-Line and Vignale versions.
