The C5 Hybrid has lower carrying and towing capacities than its petrol-engined counterpart, but remains a pretty versatile choice

The C5 Aircross Hybrid is a large and spacious car inside, with its set of three full-size rear seats being a particularly welcome feature. Total boot capacity and maximum towing weight are somewhat reduced from the petrol version of the C5 Aircross, but this is still a useful and versatile vehicle in hybrid form.

Citroen C5 Hybrid interior space, storage & comfort

The chunky block design on the seat upholstery looks good and they're definitely nicely cushioned, although they could do with being a bit more supportive at the sides – you sometimes find yourself sliding around a bit in corners. In the back, the C5 gets three proper individually adjustable seats, rather than a little 'bump' in the middle, found in many other cars. There's also no transmission tunnel running down the middle of the car, so even the person sitting in the middle doesn't suffer squashed feet – that gets a big thumbs up from us.

Boot space

Practicality can be a concern if you're looking at plug-in hybrids, as often they sacrifice some boot space in order to accommodate their batteries. And while the C5 Hybrid doesn't have any awkward, boxy intrusions in the boot area, the total luggage volume is slightly less than for other C5s.

All three of the back seats slide forwards and backwards individually, so you have up to 600 litres to play with when they're in place. Drop them down, and you're looking at 1,510 litres in total. Corresponding figures for the petrol version are 720 and 1,630 litres respectively. There’s underfloor storage for the cables, too.

Towing

The hybrid C5 is a bit heavier than the diesel and petrol versions of the car, and one result of that is a lower towing capacity of 1,300kg, so you're restricted to pulling smaller trailers and caravans with this model.
