The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will be expensive to run by any standard, but should be cheaper than its pure-petrol siblings

Despite the introduction of plug-in hybrid technology, the Bentley Bentayga Hybrid will be an expensive car to run. The more you plug it in, the more money you’ll save, although with just 24 miles of electric range, the vast majority of drivers will need to make regular use of the 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine.

On paper, the non-hybrid 4.0-litre V8 and 6.0-litre W12 variants in the Bentayga range are capable of between 20 and just under 22mpg, with real-world figures likely to be even lower. The 3.0-litre V6 hybrid should better these numbers – but it'll only come close to the official 81mpg figure if you use the electric range in full, every time.

Bentley Bentayga Hybrid insurance group

With a price tag of £133,100, it’s no surprise that the Bentayga Hybrid falls into insurance group 50; the highest, most expensive available. This means insuring yourself on the Bentayga will likely cost a small fortune.

Warranty

The Bentley Bentayga Hybrid comes with the firm’s standard three-year warranty, with unlimited miles permitted within that timeframe.

Servicing

Bentley recommends that the Bentayga Hybrid is serviced annually or every 10,000 miles, whichever comes first. The company offers a ‘4+’ fixed-price servicing deal for customers.

Interim services every 10,000 miles or in years five, seven, nine, 11 and 13 costs £649, while a ‘major’ service every 20,000 miles or in years four, six, eight, 10, 12 and 14 costs £999. Prices include parts, labour and VAT.

Road tax

CO2 emissions of 79g/km combined with the Bentley's status as a plug-in hybrid vehicle translate to a £140 annual road-tax (VED) rate. But because the car's list price is over £40,000 (well over, in this case), a £325 'premium surcharge' is added the first five times you renew the tax, making the rate £465 in that period. Thereafter, it drops to £140.
