Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron review: interior, dashboard & comfort

Like most Audis, the Q4 Sportback e-tron features a superbly-finished cabin, with the slick Virtual Cockpit dials being one of many highlights

Interior, dashboard & comfort rating

4.5 out of 5

While the Q4 Sportback e-tron shares its mechanical platform with the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, as well as the Skoda Enyaq iV and its forthcoming coupe-SUV sibling, that’s hard to tell from inside. Superior interior quality is where Audi frequently sets itself apart from the other brands in the VW Group, and the electric Sportback is no different. It's likely to be the key reason many people choose the Audi over its closely related sister cars.

Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron dashboard

Audi’s electric coupe-SUV features minimalist dashboard design, but thankfully retains some physical buttons for the climate control and some other functions on a 'floating' panel that also houses the gear selector. There are high-quality materials throughout the cabin, with a soft and squishy finish on top of the dashboard in particular.

Equipment, options & accessories

The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron costs around £1,000 more than the standard Q4 e-tron SUV and mirrors that car’s trim structure. Entry-level Sport cars feature 19-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels for reduced drag, LED headlights, tri-zone climate control, rear parking sensors, a powered tailgate and heated front seats. S line adds 20-inch alloys, more aggressive front and rear bumpers and sports suspension, along with a sports steering wheel, black headliner and sports seats. Edition 1 tops the lineup, adding Matrix LED headlights, a black exterior styling pack and leather upholstery.

Several option packs are available for the cheaper versions, including the ‘Comfort and Sound' pack, which adds a reversing camera and premium sound system. There’s also the ‘Technology Pack’, which includes a head up display and wireless smartphone charging, and the ‘Safety Pack Plus’, which adds blind spot monitoring with exit warning and rear cross-traffic assistance. Adaptive shock absorbers with damper control are also available, along with a heat pump for reducing energy used to heat the interior. It’s disappointing that many of these features don’t come as standard, though.

Infotainment, apps & sat nav

All Q4 Sportback e-trons come as standard with a 10.25-inch 'Virtual Cockpit' driver's display, an 11.6-inch infotainment touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay. Android Auto is also available, but you need to plug your phone in to use it. The central infotainment touchscreen is smaller than the one you’ll find in a Skoda Enyaq iV, and smaller still than the screen in the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y. But Audi’s 'MMI' operating system is one of the slickest in the business, and notably superior to the software in the Volkswagen ID.4 in particular.
