New 2022 MG 5 EV electric estate car starts from £30,995

Facelifted version of popular electric estate expected to arrive in September

2022 MG 5 EV

Pricing for the facelifted MG 5 EV has been revealed, with the electric estate starting from £30,995. The first examples of the updated zero-emissions family car are expected to arrive in the UK this September.

The new MG 5 EV – which DrivingElectric has already had a chance to drive in Germany – features refreshed styling, including new front and rear bumpers, redesigned LED headlights and tail-lights, and new wheel designs.

There are interior design and technology upgrades, too, including a new 10.25-inch touchscreen with upgraded software and support for MG’s 'iSMART' app. This allows you to check the charge state of your car or pre-condition the cabin, among other functions.

Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a seven-inch digital driver’s display and the MG Pilot driver assistance system come as standard, too. There’s now 479 litres of boot space on offer up to the parcel shelf, rising to 578 litres if you load all the way to the roof. Fold the rear seats down and you have 1,367 litres of luggage room, which is slightly less than before.

Like the latest MG ZS EV electric SUV, the 5 SW now gets Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) capability. This lets you power or charge devices like e-bikes, portable heaters or camping equipment using the car's battery.

Upgrading from the entry-level SE model to Trophy trim brings the price up to £33,495 and adds a 360-degree parking camera, heated front seats, rear privacy glass, rain-sensing wipers, automatic air-conditioning, leather-effect upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels.

There are no range or charging speed upgrades, however – beyond the improvements that were introduced for the existing car in late 2021. This saw the addition of a Long Range version to the line-up, featuring a 61.1kWh battery for a 249-mile range on a charge.

There are currently no plans to offer a less expensive ‘standard range’ version of the revised MG 5. Pre-facelift, the car was priced at just under £30,000, and until June 2022 was also eligible for the government’s plug-in car grant, which brought the price down even further.
